Looking Back at CDMX
In November 2019, Gustavo returned to CDMX, where he has previously performed with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic. This visit marked Gustavo’s first performances with the LA Phil in the Mexican capital, and featured performances and residencies as a celebration of 50 years of sisterhood between CDMX and Los Angeles.

Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl
LA Phil Music Director and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel kicks off his Hollywood Bowl performances with Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, featuring soprano Joélle Harvey, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, baritone Brian Mulligan, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. The July 21 and 23 concerts also include Eric Whitacre’s Her Sacred Spirit Soars and Equus.
Dudamel also conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks for the first time with a program that includes the composer’s Fifth Symphony, Nutcracker selections, and 1812 Overture (July 24 & 25, 2015).
On July 28, violinist Gil Shaham joins Dudamel for an all-Mendelssohn program, comprising the German composer’s Violin Concerto and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Dudamel rounds out his Hollywood Bowl concerts of the summer season with an evening devoted to the music of Mozart on July 30, comprising selected arias performed by bass-baritone Gerald Finley and soprano Miah Persson, as well as the Piano Concerto No. 21 with Alice Sara Ott.

On August 30, Gustavo Dudamel leads the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Sibelius’s Second Symphony at the Baltic Sea Festival. The concert opens with a performance by members of El Sistema Sweden.

Paul Desenne’s Sinfonía Burocratica ed’Amazzonica & Prokofiev 3 with Lang Lang and LA Phil
This week Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Venezuelan-born cellist/composer Paul Desenne’s Sinfonía Burocratica ed’Amazzonica alongside works by Ravel and Prokofiev in concerts May 8 to 10. Ravel’s Valse nobles et sentimentales and La valse frame Desenne’s tropical symphony in five movements and Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto, featuring guest pianist Lang Lang.

Andrew Norman World Premiere and Brahms Second Piano Concerto with Emanuel Ax and LA Phil
Following European tours with Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Göteborgs Symfoniker, Music Director Gustavo Dudamel returns to the United States to lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Gustavo begins his month of concerts with the American orchestra this week, conducting pianist Emanuel Ax in Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto on May 1, 2 and 3 and the world premiere of Andrew Norman’s Release (except Friday), a work for piano and orchestra. Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture kicks off the program.
