Opening Night Gala: The Brilliance of Beethoven with LA Phil & Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela
To inaugurate the 2015-2016 LA Phil season, Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and his two orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, come together for the Opening Night Gala: The Brilliance of Beethoven on Tuesday, September 29 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The all-Beethoven gala celebration also launches the LA Phil’s eleven-day Immortal Beethoven festival. Dudamel conducts the program which includes excerpts from two dramatic works, Egmont and The Creatures of Prometheus, not found elsewhere in the festival programming. The Egmont excerpts feature soprano Rachele Gilmore, dancers from Barak Ballet, and Christoph Waltz as narrator.
The opening night concert concludes with the combined orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale and vocal soloists that include sopranos Rachele Gilmore and Mariana Ortiz, mezzo-soprano J’nai Bridges, tenor Joshua Guerrero, and bass Soloman Howard, performing the final “Ode to Joy” movement of Beethoven’s “Choral" Symphony.
