Looking Back at CDMX

In November 2019, Gustavo returned to CDMX, where he has previously performed with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic. This visit marked Gustavo’s first performances with the LA Phil in the Mexican capital, and featured performances and residencies as a celebration of 50 years of sisterhood between CDMX and Los Angeles. Earlier in the year, Gustavo and the LA Phil also toured to South Korea, Japan and Scotland, as part of the orchestra’s centennial international tour.

Highlights of the Mexico City residency included country premieres for works of John Adams, Gabriela Ortiz and Andrew Norman and presenting 96 YOLA musicians with the LA Phil in a cultural exchange with 100 musicians from Music Schools of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature, the Sistema Nacional de Fomento Musical en México, and The Gustavo Dudamel Foundation. He also brought the music of American composers to CDMX’s largest stage, the Auditorio Nacional, with a packed house of 10,000 enthusiastic fans.
