Gustavo to Kick Off LA Phil 2014/15 Season with Opening Night Gala Concert: A John Williams Celebration

On Tuesday, September 30, Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic in its Opening Night Gala Concert: A John Williams Celebration, which inaugurates the 2014/15 season, Gustavo’s sixth as Music Director. The all-Williams concert program is highlighted by an appearance by legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman joining the orchestra to perform works including music from Schindler’s List.

The program features several video installations created by projection designer Netia Jones and creative studio, LIGHTMAP. Jones is producing new video content for the performance of Williams’ Soundings. For the concert's conclusion, Jones is designing a unique video installation featuring concept art from the Lucasfilm archive, to accompany the orchestra’s performance of the iconic Throne Room and Finale from Star Wars.

The evening also includes select works from Williams’s career: the Olympic Fanfare and Theme, featuring the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets; The Duel from The Adventures of Tintin; and, a special performance of Escapades from Catch Me if You Can featuring Dan Higgins on alto saxophone, Glenn Paulson on vibraphone and Michael Valerio on string bass.
