Gustavo & LA Phil Head to CDMX in November 2019
In November 2019, Gustavo will join the LA Phil for performances and residencies in Mexico City, as part of the orchestra's centennial international tour. The CDMX residency follows tours with the orchestra to South Korea, Japan and Scotland this year, and both marks the orchestra's return to the Mexican capital for the first time in 20 years, and its first appearance there under Dudamel. The residency also celebrates 50 years of sisterhood between CDMX and Los Angeles.
Programs at the CDMX performances will feature established repertoire by composers including Bruckner, Stravinsky, and Ginastera, in combination with regional premieres of LA Phil commissions by John Adams, Paul Desenne, Andrew Norman, and Gabriela Ortiz. Dudamel and the LA Phil will be joined by soloist Yuja Wang for performances of John Adams' new piano concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?.
In addition, 85 musicians from Dudamel’s signature program YOLA will join the LA Phil in a cultural exchange with 100 musicians from Music Schools of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature, the Sistema Nacional de Fomento Musical en México, and the Dudamel Foundation.
