Gustavo and Herbie Hancock Bring 'Power to the People' to LA in March and April
Between March 5 and April 11, 2020, Gustavo Dudamel and Herbie Hancock will bring together musicians, artists and activists from a variety of musical traditions and social movements for Power to the People!, a festival that celebrates the intersection of music and humanitarianism. Co-curated by Dudamel and Hancock, Power to the People! will feature concerts, talks, participatory events, and performance art at venues throughout Los Angeles.
Artists involved in the festival include Patti Smith, Terence Blanchard, Ben Harper, Conrad Tao, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Ted Hearne, with a special highlight being Gustavo's performance with the LA Phil and Latin music superstar Residente on March 7.
Gustavo offers some thoughts on his vision for the festival: “Ever since my experience with El Sistema as a young boy in Venezuela, I have passionately believed in the power of music to unite, heal, and inspire us to build a better world. The extraordinary artists in this festival, each with their own unique vision of how art can change society for the better, serve as a powerful reminder that, no matter the challenges that face us, there is always hope for the future.”
