Gustavo + Vienna Philharmonic: The Americas Tour

Embarking on an eleven-concert tour, Gustavo Dudamel reunites with the legendary Vienna Philharmonic to share music with audiences across the Americas in February and March 2018. Gustavo and the orchestra explore the music of some of the world's most iconic composers: Brahms, Mahler, Berlioz, Ives, and Tchaikovsky.

"The Americas are a united essence," says Gustavo Dudamel. "The culture of the Americas – north, south, central – is inspired by the landscape, the people, the folklore of these amazing countries. That's a beautiful connection, and I believe that the culture of these places breaks borders. Boundaries don't exist, divisions don't exist...an entire continent, as one, exists. America as one: that's what this tour symbolizes."

The tour spans six cities, with performances in New York, NY, USA; Naples, Florida, USA; Mexico City, Mexico; Bogotà, Colombia; Santiago, Chile; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In addition to bringing the legendary Vienna Philharmonic to his home continent, Gustavo will also host a four-day intensive Art and Citizenship workshop for young musicians from across the Americas. "Encounters – Music United the Continents" will underline Gustavo's belief that music has the power to unite and inspire.

"We are all part of the 'New World,'" says Gustavo, "with all the sense of youth, hope, diversity, and courage that term has represented for generations." From March 1 to 4, young people from Canada, the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina, and Chile will join together to participate in rehearsals, discussions, performances, and a concert at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. They will explore the cultural unity of the Americas and offer a timely celebration of harmony, equality, dignity, beauty, and respect through music. Many of the young people take part in local education initiatives that promote music education in underserved communities.
