New album release: Wagner with Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela
“This new year, Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela release a new, digital-only album of orchestral music from Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle and Tristan und Isolde.
“Music after Wagner was never the same,” says Bolívar Orchestra Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. “With new approaches to melody, harmony, rhythm and orchestration, Wagner's operas pushed music to its physical and emotional limits… paving the way not just for composers like Mahler and Richard Strauss, but for everything from Star Wars to Metallica.”
The new Wagner album includes the iconic “Ride of the Valkyries” (Die Walküre), Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla” (Das Rheingold), “Forest Murmurs” (Siegfried), Siegfried’s Rhein Journey” (Götterdammerung), Siegfried’s Funeral Music (Götterdammerung), and the Prélude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde. This January, Gustavo and the Bolivars take this music on European tour. Their performances abroad—which feature the music of Wagner, Mahler, Beethoven, and Orbón—include stops in London (January 8 & 9), Brussels (January 11 & 12), Frankfurt (January 14), Barcelona (January 16 & 17), València (January 19), Madrid (January 20), and Paris (January 24 & 25).
Gustavo and Bolívars’ latest recording, which features cover art by renowned Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, is released worldwide for download on January 26, 2015.
