Mozart with the LA Phil
Beginning this week, the music of Mozart takes center stage in Gustavo Dudamel’s performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In concerts on May 15 & 16, Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute and Symphony No. 36, “Linz,” frame Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, featuring guest soloist Joshua Bell.
From May 23 to 31, Gustavo conducts the LA Phil in Così fan tutte, the finale to Gustavo and the orchestra’s Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy. The creative team features staging by Christopher Alden, set design by Zaha Hadid Architects, and costumes by Hussein Chalayan.
To round out their 2013/14 season together, Gustavo and the LA Phil reprise Mozart’s “Linz” Symphony alongside Ravel’s Piano Concerto with Hélène Grimaud (May 30 & June 1). Mozart’s Serenata Notturna opens the June 1 performance.
