May with the LA Phil
Gustavo Dudamel begins a month of music-making with the Los Angeles Philharmonic this week, conducting Tchaikovsky's glorious First Piano Concerto with pianist Lang Lang alongside the first LA Phil performances of Carl Nielsen's Fourth Symphony, "The Inextuinguishable" (May 2, 3, 4, & 5).
On May 9 and 10, Gustavo and the LA Phil perform Mendelssohn's "Reformation" Symphony as well as Bach's Cantata No. 60, "O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort." In addition, the program sees the LA Phil's Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour perform Mozart's Third Violin Concerto.
In a concert on May 26, Gustavo and the LA Phil reprise Mendelssohn's "Reformation" Symphony. They will also undertake Penderecki's Ciaconna for strings and Mozart's Sinfonia concertante, K. 297b.
We have developed an approach to music that I was dreaming to have with this orchestra.
