Hightlights of Dudamel’s fall season with LA Phil includes opening night with Herbie Hancock, world premiere by Chapela, and more

Gustavo Dudamel’s third season as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic kicks off with an opening night gala concert with jazz legend Herbie Hancock on September 27. He then leads the LA Phil in five consecutive weeks of concerts as part of the orchestra’s 2011/12 subscription season, including a series focusing on music by Mendelssohn, performances of Bartok’s Third Piano Concerto with pianist Yefim Bronfman, and the world premiere of Chapela’s Concerto for Electric Cello with Johannes Moser. In addition, Dudamel will lead the LA Phil in performances of works by Adams, Berlioz, Kurtag, Mozart, and Strauss and in two concerts at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco as part of the San Francisco Symphony’s American Orchestra series, which brings five of the top orchestras in America to San Francisco in celebration of the SFS’s centennary season.
