2013 Tour with LA Phil
This month Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic will embark on their 2013 tour, beginning with an International Associate Residency at London's Barbican Centre (March 14 to 17) and featuring concerts in Lucerne (March 20, 21), Paris (March 23, 24), and New York (March 27, 28).
Gustavo and the LA Phil's Barbican performances begin March 14 with a Green Umbrella concert that includes the European premieres of Unsuk Chin's Graffiti and Joseph Pereira's Concerto fo Percussion and Chamber Orchestra, as well as a performance John Adams's Son of Chamber Symphony - conducted by the American composer himself. On March 15, Gustavo conducts an open rehearsal with young musicians as part of the residency's three-day symposium Future Play: Music Systems in the 21st Century.
While at the Barbican, Gustavo and the LA Phil present two musical programs that they showcase throughout their tour. On March 16 Gustavo and the LA Phil give the European premiere of John Adams's Passion Oratorio The Gospel According to the Other Mary in a new staging by Peter Sellars that the LA Times called "new, gripping expression on every level." On March 17, Gustavo and the LA Phil celebrate the colors of the orchestra with performances of Debussy's La mer, Vivier's Zipangu, and Stravinsky's The Firebird. Experience Gustavo and the LA Phil's performances of this music in Lucerne (March 20, 21), Paris (23, 24), and New York (March 27, 28).
