Final three weeks of
Continuing their examination of the symphonic works of Brahms, Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil present three more weeks of concerts in Walt Disney Concert Hall as part of the series "Brahms Unbound." From May 19 to 22, Dudamel and the LA Phil perform a program that pairs Gubaidulina's Glorious Percussion with Brahms's Tragic Overture and Symphony No. 2. For the Causal Friday concert on May 20, the two Brahms works will be performed without the Gubaidulina. Gorecki's Third Symphony will be presented alongside Brahms's Third Symphony and Variations on a Theme by Haydn for three concerts on May 26 to 29. For another Casual Friday concert on May 27, all but the Gorecki will be performed.
For the final weekend of "Brahms Unbound," which takes place from June 2 to 5, Dudamel conducts Brahms's Symphony No. 4 as well as the composer's Double Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra. The soloists for these concerts are the prodigious brothers Renaud Capuçon, a violinist, and Gautier Capuçon, a cellist. These performances also mark Dudamel's last performances this season with the LA Phil. The matinee performance on June 5 will be streamed live to movie theaters across the U.S. and Canada and marks the last in a series of three LA Phil LIVE transmissions this season. The host for this broadcast is the American actor, musician and author John Lithgow.
