Immortal Beethoven Festival at Walt Disney Concert Hall
To launch the 2015-2016 season, Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and his two orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, come together for the eleven-day Immortal Beethoven festival at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Kicking off the festival on September 29, 2015, excerpts from the dramatic works Egmont and The Creatures of Prometheus will incorporate elements of dance and narration, complemented by the exultant final movement of the composer’s Ninth Symphony, its “Ode to Joy”. The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra are joined by the Los Angeles Master Chorale, members of Barak Ballet, and vocal soloists Kiera Duffy, Mariana Ortiz, J’nai Bridges, Joshua Guerrero, and Soloman Howard.
On October 1, the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs Beethoven’s First and Second Romances with violinist Simone Porter, as well as the First and Second Symphonies. The program receives a repeat performance on October 8.
The following day, October 3, features an afternoon performance of Beethoven’s Fifth and Sixth Symphonies with the LA Phil, and an evening performance of the Egmont Overture and Seventh and Eighth Symphonies with the Bolívars. The LA Phil highlights the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies once again on October 9.
The LA Phil and the Bolívars join forces to reprise the Egmont Overture and Seventh and Eighth Symphonies on October 10.
Gustavo also leads both orchestras in multiple performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, “Choral”, featuring vocal soloists Mariana Ortiz, J’nai Bridges, Joshua Guerrero, and Soloman Howard on October 4, 6, 7 & 11.
