“Behind the Score: The Art of the Film Composer”
“Gustavo Dudamel joins fellow composers Gustavo Santaolalla and John Williams on Monday, July 21 at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for “Behind the Score: The Art of the Film Composer” at the Bing Theater in Los Angeles.
In a conversation hosted by Tavis Smiley, the trio will discuss significant musical moments in film that have inspired their work as they examine the art and process of creating a film score as well as the director-composer collaboration.
Gustavo Dudamel made his first foray into composing for motion pictures with “The Liberator (Libertador),” a biopic about Simón Bolívar. The film was screened in June at the Los Angeles Film Festival and will be released in Venezuela on July 24. The score for the film was recorded with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, and the soundtrack will be released by Deutsche Grammophon.
Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil perform the Suite from Libertador at the Hollywood Bowl on July 29, as part of Americas & Americans Festival Noche de Cine, which will also include Santaolalla’s Suite from The Motorcycle Diaries. Program and concert details here.
