Music Director Gustavo Dudamel leads LA Phil & Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela in TchaikovskyFest
From February 20 to March 2, 2014, Gustavo Dudamel conducts both the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela in TchaikovskyFest – an exploration of the Russian composer. TchaikovskyFest encompasses performances of the six symphonies and selected tone poems, and also features community and education events with Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA), including the TAKE A STAND symposium, which will examine best practices, lessons learned and future directions of music education. TchaikovskyFest culminates in a joint performance of the two orchestras on March 2 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
“It is always a joy to bring the LA Phil and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela together,” says Gustavo. “They are my musical families, and over the years, we have become one family. With our continuing adventurous collaborations, something very special happens when we are together. It is almost as if the music becomes more alive, more powerful.”
