Hollywood Bowl 2016
This summer Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel returns to the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for eight nights that include concert performances of West Side Story (July 14 & 19), the return of the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with fireworks (featuring the American Ballet Theatre August 5 & 6), the music of Latin America (August 2), Puccini’s Tosca (July 24), as well as concerts with Yuja Wang (July 21) and Lang Lang (July 12).
Dudamel launches his summer 2016 performances with the LA Phil on July 12, performing Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with pianist Lang Lang. On July 14 and 19, the LA Phil and Dudamel give concert performances of Leonard Bernstein's beloved West Side Story. For a July 21 program, Yuja Wang returns to the Hollywood Bowl to guest with Dudamel and the orchestra in both Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G as well as Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.
Dudamel and the orchestra’s summer performances continue with a concert presentation of Puccini's Tosca (July 24) that sees Julianna Di Giacomo in the title role, Russell Thomas as Cavaradossi, Falk Struckmann as Scarpia, Andrew Craig Brown as Angelotti, Valeriano Lanchas as Sacristan, Keith Jameson as Spoletta, Patrick Guetti as Sciarrone, Reid Bruton as the Jailor and Grant Anderson as Shepherd.
In a program of Latin American music on August 2, Dudamel leads the LA Phil and guitarist Angel Romero for the world premiere of Schifrin’s Concierto de la Amistad. The evening also includes Villa-Lobos's Bachianas brasileiras No. 2 plus Piazzolla's Tangazo and Selection of Tangos. The Tchaikovsky Spectacular with fireworks returns for August 5 and 6 performances conducted by Dudamel and featuring the American Ballet Theatre, spotlighting selections from the composer's Swan Lake and the 1812 Overture.
