Dudamel kicks off South American tour with Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra
Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela embarked on a nineteen-day tour of five South American countries. The tour kicked off this past Tuesday with a performance in the Brazilian city of Bahai, and future stops include Sao Paulo, Brazil (June 19, 20 and 21); Buenos Aires, Argentina (June 26 and 27); Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (June 22 and 23); Paulina, Brazil (June 17); Montevideo, Uruguay (June 28); Santiago, Chile (June 29); and Bogotá, Columbia (July 2). Along the tour Dudamel and the orchestra are performing two alternating programs, one featuring Mahler's epic Seventh Symphony, and the other featuring Stravinsky'sFirebird Suite, Chavez's Symphonia India, Castellano's Santa Cruz de Pacairigua, and the second suite from Ravel's Daphnis & Chloe.
