Dudamel conducts Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela in Lucerne
The Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela has just wrapped up a week-long residency at Switzerland’s Lucerne Festival at Easter. On March 20, Gustavo Dudamel led the orchestra in one of the orchestra’s four concerts. The evening’s program included Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini and Strauss’ An Alpine Symphony. Each of the other three performances were led by a different conductor. The March 19 concert was conducted by Gustavo’s mentor, the great Claudio Abbado; the other performances were led by Christian Vásquez and Diego Matheuz, who were both trained in José Antonio Abreu’s El Sistema program and are currently Dudamel Fellows with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
